Screenings of The Great Gatsby
Join A.R.T. at The Brattle Theatre on Tuesday, Apr. 23 and Thursday, Apr. 25 for two renowned film interpretations of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved novel before the musical A.R.T.'s "Gatsby" makes its world premiere May 23! Celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year, "The Great Gatsby" (1974) was written by Francis Ford Coppola and features Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. "The Great Gatsby" (2013) was directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan. In each film, Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner now living on Long Island, finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, the nouveau riche Jay Gatsby. He is drawn into Gatsby’s circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy. Both films will be shown on each date. This event is co-presented with The Brattle, which has been showing the best in classic, cutting edge, foreign, and arthouse films since 1953.
