Gallery Talk: Joana Choumali: Languages of West African Marketplaces

On Saturday, Jan. 25, join exhibition co-curator Ilisa Barbash, curator of visual anthropology at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, for a close look at Joana Choumali’s photographic textiles in "Joana Choumali: Languages of West African Marketplaces" (on view January 25–May 11). Choumali created the textiles during her time as a 2020 Robert Gardner Fellowship in Photography at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography. "Joana Choumali: Languages of West African Marketplaces" was co-organized by the Harvard Art Museums and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology. The creation of the works in this exhibition was funded by the Robert Gardner Fellowship in Photography at the Peabody Museum. For more information, visit the Gardner Fellowship website.

Please check in with museum staff at the Visitor Services desk in the Calderwood Courtyard to request to join the gallery talk. Talks are limited to 18 people and are available on a first-come, first-served basis; registration is not required. Harvard Art Museums offer free admission every day, Tuesday through Sunday. Please see the museum visit page to learn about the general policies for visiting the museums.
