Science Spotlights: Building a Planet from the Inside Out
- This event has passed.
June 13 @ 2:00 pm
While humans have spent their entire lives on Earth, they have really only experienced a tiny fraction of our planet. Nearly 99% of the Earth lies hidden deep beneath the surface, in the mantle and core. This unseen interior drives everything from plate tectonics to the Northern Lights.
In this session, scientist Jack Sheehan explains how researchers study places they can never physically see. He will demonstrate how scientists recreate the extreme conditions of Earth’s interior in a laboratory setting to uncover how the planet formed and how it continues to evolve today.
Regular museum admission rates apply.
Presented by the Harvard Museum of Natural History and Harvard Museums of Science & Culture.
