Cultural Threads: Weavers’ Memories from the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes

Hear reflections on textiles as ancestral knowledge, memory and representations of resilience in the Andes on Friday, April 28. Meet the artisans, see demonstrations of weaving techniques from San Miguel and Tacabamba (Cajamarca, Peru) and Candelaria (Chuquisaca, Bolivia) plus listen to Andean music and poetry on Saturday, April 29. Both events will be held in Spanish. The guest presenters are Dr. Haydée Quiroz Malca, María Celidonia Chuquijajas Saman, Laura Sánchez Carhuajulca and Carlos Flores. Solsire Cusicanqui, lecturer in the anthropology department at Harvard University, and Americo Mendoza-Mori, lecturer in ethnicity, migration, rights at Harvard will moderate. This program is presented in collaboration with Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Quechua Initiative on Global Indigeneity, Municipalidad Provincial de Cajamarca and Municipalidad Provincial de Chota.
