Claudia Arozqueta, author of Heartbeat Art, explores the history of heartbeats, pulse, and technoscience in the work of international artists and composers, in conversation with MIT’s Behnaz Farahi. Heartbeat Art is the first study to examine how artists have engaged with heartbeats from the 1960s to today, creating innovative works that extend the body’s circulatory processes beyond their physical limits. Drawing on both scientific and artistic experimentation, Arozqueta presents case studies of artists including Yoko Ono, Pauline Oliveros, Heinz Mack, Brian O’Doherty, Teresa Burga, and others.
