April 13, 2023 @ 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Harvard Radcliffe Collegium Musicum's performance on Thursday, April 13 features the world premiere of the mixed choir version of Tesfa Wondemagegnehuโs four-movement work, "To Repair." The piece grapples with the state of racial injustice in America, particularly as it pertains to its disproportionate impact on generations of Black Americans. The four movements explore what it means to repair by first acknowledging a countryโs flawed past in order to make space for grace, forgiveness and reconciliation.
The performance will also feature R. Nathaniel Dettโs "Donโt Be Weary Traveler" and new compositions written by Harvard students Devon Gates โ23, Chinyere Obasi โ24 and Eddie Raj โ24 will additionally explore themes of healing and repair. These piecesโcreated through the Harvard Choruses New Music Initiativeโwill be performed by Ensemble Veritas, a 16-singer professional choir. Tickets can be reserved online. All proceeds will be donated to a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of Black artistry.
