ArtsThursdays at the Peabody Museum

March 26 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture for a free night at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology! Come for a night of fun, after-hours activities in the galleries. Discover powerful Native American ledger art in the Peabody collections with Gavin Zempel, enrolled citizen of the Lower Sioux Indian Community, Bdewakantunwan Dakota, and Harvard American Studies graduate student. Zempel will give two short gallery presentations at 6pm and 7pm on how ledger art asserts Native presence, memory, and self-representation.

See “Castaway: The Afterlife of Plastic,” before it closes April 5—a striking mix of photography and beach debris that confronts humans’ deep entanglement with plastic. Explore award-winning middle and high school student art from the global Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest, spotlighting plastic pollution and climate change. Join Harvard student-led highlight tours of the Peabody Museum from 5:30–8:30pm. Sip on a selection of beverages for purchase (21+ with valid government ID for alcohol). Enter a free raffle for museum gifts and a museum membership. Visit the Harvard Museum of Natural History, also open 5–9pm (access on the third floor of the Peabody Museum).

RSVPs are encouraged, but walk-in visitors are always welcome. Free event parking is available at the 52 Oxford Street Garage 4:30–9:30pm. ArtsThursdays is a university-wide initiative supported by Harvard University Committee on the Arts.
