International Archaeology Day: Meet an Archaeologist

Drop in to the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture on Saturday, Oct. 15 to learn about archaeology with graduate students. From 11am–1pm, join archaeologist Jack Bishop and examine ancient stone tools for a glimpse into the early domestication of animals and the rise of agriculture in the Middle East. See how the ancient Inka of Peru (c. 1400–1532 CE) wrote with string. Then, from 1–3pm, archaeologist Mack FitzPatrick deciphers a khipu—a knotted string record-keeping system–through close examination of a working replica. Look for the archaeologists in the third floor gallery. This event is free with regular museum admission and is presented by the Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology plus Harvard Museums of Science & Culture.
